Tattoo Price Guide — Hanoi (2026)

Hanoi’s Old Quarter has one of the highest concentrations of tattoo studios anywhere in Vietnam, and prices between them vary a lot — sometimes for good reasons, sometimes not. If you’re planning to get tattooed on a trip here, this is what you should actually expect to pay, and what’s really behind the number on your quote.

The general price range in Hanoi

Roughly speaking, studios in Hanoi fall into a few tiers:

  • Budget studios: small, simple designs from around $20–$60. These can be a fine choice for a very small flash piece, but this tier is also where corners on hygiene and needle sourcing are most likely to get cut — worth asking directly about single-use needles before you sit down.
  • Mid-range studios: roughly $50–$150 for small-to-medium custom work, a reasonable middle ground for most travelers.
  • International-standard studios: $100–$200+ per hour, usually reflecting more experienced artists, certified hygiene practices, and imported inks.

What we charge, plainly

At GOAT Tattoo Studio, our pricing is simple and the same for every client:

  • $77/hour — our standard rate for custom pieces and anything billed by session time.
  • From $40 — mini tattoos under 30 minutes, a good fit for small, simple, or first-tattoo designs.
  • 10% off for group bookings — getting tattooed with a partner or a group of friends.

You’ll always get a confirmed price after your design consultation, before any tattooing starts.

What actually changes the final price

The hourly rate is only half the story — the number of hours is the other half, and that depends on:

  • Size — the most obvious factor, but not the only one.
  • Placement — some areas (hands, fingers, ribs) take an artist longer to work carefully, regardless of size. See our finger tattoo and hand tattoo guides for placement-specific detail.
  • Line and shading complexity — fine detail and heavy shading both add time.
  • Color vs. black & grey — color usually takes longer to apply well. We break this down fully in our color vs. black & grey guide.
  • Artist experience — more experienced artists often work more efficiently, which can offset a higher hourly rate.

Why the cheapest quote isn’t always the best deal

A tattoo is permanent. Saving $30–50 by going with the cheapest studio you can find only pays off if the result is actually good — and if the equipment was actually safe. Before comparing prices between studios, it’s worth asking about the details that don’t show up in a quote at all:

  • Are needles single-use, opened from a sealed pack in front of you?
  • Is equipment properly sterilized between clients?
  • Can you see examples of the artist’s healed work, not just fresh-ink photos taken right after the session?

At GOAT, every session uses single-use needles and sterile equipment sourced from trusted international brands, as part of a strict hygiene protocol we follow for every client, no exceptions.

A practical note on payment

Bring more cash than you think you’ll need, or plan for a couple of ATM withdrawals in advance. Not every studio in the Old Quarter accepts foreign cards, and daily ATM withdrawal limits in Vietnam can make a single large tattoo payment awkward if you leave it to the last minute.

Getting a real quote

The only way to get an accurate price for your specific idea is a short design consultation — send us your reference images, rough size, and placement, and we’ll walk you through what it’ll actually cost before you commit to a date.
